The latest social media challenge may be driving shortages of milk crates across the country as people jump at the chance to climb stacked milk crates. Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner AKA The Incredible Hulk has chimed in to share the hilarious reason the strongest Avenger won’t be jumping on the trend – and it’s not for the reason that you think.

If you missed it – the milk crate challenge has videos of people climbing milk crate staircases popping up all over social media. It seems simple enough, but some of the most viral videos on TikTok have ended in some truly spectacular wipeouts even as they top 15.3 million views.

The viral challenge has spread all over Facebook with each person making a pyramid from the plastic crates. The injury record keeps climbing and has included everything from broken wrists, shoulder dislocations, meniscus tears, to all sorts of other orthopedic injuries. There have many trips to the emergency room.

That has not stopped participants from getting very creative with the stacked crates – including challenge videos like these failed attempts:

Golden Globe Award winning-actor Mark Ruffalo clearly has been enjoying watching Marvel fans and others face plant, and he has announced that the Hulk will not be joining in. And it’s not because the Hulk would just smash the plastic crates beneath his massive feet.

As revealed in the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame (2019), Marvel’s Hulk hates stairs. Though maybe Professor Hulk may have moved past it. However, Ruffalo clearly has not forgotten as he shares a GIF of the scene saying:

How could fans ever forget?

Mark Ruffalo has been filming his MCU return with the upcoming Marvel original series She-Hulk. She-Hulk will star newcomer Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters and Tim Roth, who’s playing Abomination for the third time after The Incredible Hulk (2008) and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021). The cast will be joined by Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) as the villain Titania and is expected to hit Disney+ sometime in 2022.

She-Hulk is even the rumored debut of the Red Hulk played by William Hurt (Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross). Ross has been hunting the Hulk since before Marvel’s Avengers (2012) and he could be exposed to his own dose of gamma radiation in the next original series. His Red Hulk is a member of the comic book team that gets their name from him – The Thunderbolts.

Marvel’s Phase 4 is all about giving underused characters a time to shine but everyone familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe knows it would take a miracle for Mark Ruffalo to get a solo Marvel Hulk movie since Universal Studios still co-owns the character rights.

That’s why Hulk has only shown up in ensemble films since Edward Norton introduced him back in The Incredible Hulk. Luckily, fans are not left Hulk-less as the Marvel character made Taika Waititi’s first Marvel film Thor: Ragnarok (2018) the smash hit it was.

And we’ll be seeing Mark Ruffalo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the next episode of Marvel’s What If…? as he is returning to voice Bruce Banner for Kevin Feige’s first animated series. Thought it will be missing many of his fellow Avenger actors like Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark/ Iron Man and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/ Captain America.

Academy Award-winning actor Mark Ruffalo might also be trying to keep his social media neutral. Ruffalo has always used his platform to share his political opinions but he recently had to apologize for a social media post where he accused Israel of “committing ‘genocide’” against the Palestinian people.
