Prince Harry says he predicted the Capitol insurrection and warned Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey the day before—but has not “heard from him since.”

The Duke of Sussex condemned misinformation online and in the mainstream media during an appearance at online conference Re:Wired.

Asked whether he had the chance to make his case directly to the social media platform he replied that he had been in touch with Twitter’s chief executive.

Prince Harry said: “Jack and I were emailing each other prior to January 6 where I warned him that his platform was allowing a coup to be staged.

“That email was sent the day before and then it happened and I haven’t heard from him since.”

The day Harry sent his message, Trump supporters were openly planning demonstrations in Washington, D.C., while Black churches were preparing to become targets.

Donald Trump had suggested Vice President Mike Pence might interfere in the certification process, telling a rally: “I hope Mike Pence comes through for us, I have to tell you.”

ProudBoys Chairman Enrique Tarrio was banned from D.C. by a judge on January 5 after burning a Black Lives Matter banner from Asbury United Methodist Church.

On Parler, Tarrio said in a statement the same day as Harry’s email: “The ProudBoys will turn out in record numbers on Jan 6th but this time with a twist.

“We will not be wearing our traditional Black and Yellow. We will be incognito and we will spread across downtown DC in smaller teams.”

A Washington Post article on January 5 read: “The hearing came as two days of demonstrations were getting underway in downtown Washington by supporters of President Trump’s false assertions that he won the presidential election.

“Far-right online forums are urging demonstrators to bring firearms Wednesday, in violation of District laws, and D.C. police are providing some Black churches extra protection.”

The newspaper added that the ProudBoys had “shown up ready to fight.”

Harry used his appearance at Re:Wired to renew his criticisms of both the mainstream media and social media, citing Princess Diana’s death in a Paris car crash while being chased by the paparazzi.

He said: “The incentives of publishing are not necessarily aligned with the incentives of truth. My experience, I guess, has been more pre-social media around the U.K. press who sadly conflated profit with purpose and news with entertainment.

“And they don’t report the news, they create it. They’ve successfully turned fact-based news into opinion-based gossip with devastating consequences for the country.

“I lost my mother to this self-manufactured rabidness and obviously I’m determined not to lose the mother of my children to the same thing.

“And what I said in the mental health series many months ago that they won’t stop until she’s dead, that was I guess more of a warning not a challenge.”
